| Let us build the future : Contribute to Paris Yiddish Center-Medem Library
Dear friends, As we informed you in our message dated April 17th, the “Paris Yiddish Center-Medem Library” has contracted to purchase new and larger premises located in the neighborhood of the République, not far from our present building. The Medem Library represents the largest collection of Yiddish books in Europe, and our collections continue to grow. The Center itself has been expanding its activities and attendance to the point where our present building can no longer accommodate its users. For this reason, a move to new quarters is absolutely essential and, given the rising cost of rental in Paris, the only option is to buy. A certain amount of funds for this project will certainly come from the various institutions, governmental and non-governmental, that have given their support over the years (the city of Paris, the Ministry of Culture, the Shoah Foundation, etc). But nearly half of the budget for this acquisition will have to come from our own sources, and for this we need the support of all our friends. We are counting on you to add your financial contribution to this project. If you believe, as we do, that it is vital to preserve the Yiddish heritage in literature, music, press, cinema, etc. and to transmit the language and culture to the younger generation through courses and cultural activities, then you will agree that this is a worthy project.
